The Montano Student Investment Fund (SMIF) is pleased to announce several upcoming events designed to provide you with hands-on experience, networking opportunities, and insights into the financial industry. We invite you to participate in the following exciting events!

1) Annual Alpha Challenge – Stock Pitch Competition

The Alpha Challenge is SMIF’s signature stock pitch competition, offering an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their analytical skills and compete for cash prizes. The event will take place on November 1, 2024, from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Merten Hall, Room 1201. The competition is divided into two tiers:

  • Alpha Tier: Recommended for students with prior experience in quantitative analysis or those who are currently taking or have completed FNAN 341.
  • Beta Tier: Ideal for students without previous experience in finance.

Prizes for winners of both Tiers:

  • 1st Place: $1,000
  • 2nd Place: $500
  • 3rd Place: $200

2) Costello Fellows on Wall Street

This exclusive event provides FNAN students the opportunity to network with prominent financial institutions in New York City. Participants will have the chance to engage with representatives from top firms, learn about their operations, and gain valuable industry insights.

  • Application Opening: Late November 2024

3) Washington Association of Money Managers (WAMM) – ETF Industry Outlook

As an institutional member of WAMM, SMIF invites you to attend the upcoming event focused on the ETF Industry Outlook for 2025 and beyond. This event will feature senior professionals from BlackRock, ProShares, Bloomberg, and other major ETF creators, who will discuss the latest trends in ETFs, including crypto rollouts and multi-factor ETFs.
